Albeit the considerable decline witnessed in the employment of low-dose prednisone as a chronic treatment modality for RA over the preceding two decades, a significant portion of patients, potentially comprising up to 50%, continue to rely upon daily prednisone administration, albeit typically maintaining doses below 5 mg. Ascertaining the long-term safety profile of prednisone at a dosage level of 5 mg or less necessitates the consideration of osteoporosis as the sole issue of concern.
However, 9% of individuals engaging in long-term steroid utilization have been initiated on biphosphonates to mitigate this risk.
My Personal Guidelines for the Prescriptive Use of Oral Corticosteroids
